What is Dove Play Therapy?
Play Therapy is a form of counselling in which play is used as a means of helping children express or communicate their feelings.

Children use play to learn and understand their world.
Using play as a means of communication, enables children to make sense of what is happening around them, particularly when experiencing challenging times or have to deal with upsetting events.
It is recognised that the Play Therapy Holistic Approach enables children to communicate at their own speed, at their own level, feeling safe and heard.
Many children show behaviour that indicates that they are experiencing unresolved painful issues.

Who is Play Therapy for?

Play Therapy is for children who are in need of expressing and processing painful issues. In the Play Therapy Room a Play Therapist is both a witness and a partner in a process that leads the child to a greater understanding of his or herself and the world.
First session

Sometimes children show behaviour that indicates that they are experiencing unresolved painful issues. When parents bring their children to therapy they are often struggling with behavioural challenges or traumatic events, it is important to recognise that any preventive measures regarding mental health is an investment in a healthier future for the child and for the people around him.
After an initial meeting with the parents, the child will come to visit the Play Therapy Room for the first time. On this occasion, it is very important to talk about the reasons for referral to therapy and the child's own view of the situation. We will discuss the rules that make the Room safe, time keeping, confidentiality and disclosure (and the procedures that follow when this occurs).
